West Shop Bitch
(Don't let the name fool you!)
Where
to begin? I guess a good place to start would be when I decided to get
my first tattoo. My best friend Chris and I got a bug up our ass one
morning on our way to school. "Lets go to Escanaba and get tattoos!"
Even though we were only 16, we would find a way. We went past Colorful
Image, and Jeff was closed. We new that there was still one more shop
in town. When we got there, there was a lady helping us. We thought
that she was just a receptionist but come to find out she was the artist.
Because we didn't have our drivers license, (yeah right,) she told us
that we needed parental consent, and so we asked her if we could use
the phone so our parents could tell her it was all right. Who to call
but our best, older friend, and wouldn't you know, it worked.I got a
lizard on my lower back and my friend a little frog on her hip. Of course,
the next weekend my Mom saw mine and wasn't very pleased! I was young,
took my punishment and moved on.
Needless to say, we both went back there like three or four more times
to get work done. Now that I have worked in the shop with Jeff for three
years, I know a lot about sterilization, cross contamination, universal
precautions, and general appearance, and I cannot believe that I was
that dumb at the time. The shop that my friend and I were going to was
Horrible!!!! It was no big deal to light up a smoke while you were getting
a tattoo, but your friend couldn't sit in the room with you because
of cross contamination. Now that makes absolutely no sense to me! This
place was dark, dingy, and the Body Piercer scared the shit out of me.
I graduated High School from Big Bay de Noc in Garden Michigan the year
2000. After that Chris, myself, and one of our other friends Cassandra,
decided that we were going to get an apartment together in Escanaba.
Let the piercing begin. Cassan was new so we had to convert her slowly.
Chris had already gotten her Navel pierced in Marquette, so as far as
I was concerned I needed to catch up and so did Cassan. $50.00 dollars
a piece and both of us had infected navels. Needless to say that wrecked
Cassan from ever getting anything else done. For crying out loud even
her Mother has a tattoo!
My friend Lee came to my house one day and was talking about Colorful
Image. So we decided to take a ride there and check it out. Jeff was
a little intimidating at first but you could tell that he knew what
he was talking about. I asked Jeff what I should do for my navel, and
when he looked at it he was pretty disgusted. He gave me some sea salts
and aftercare card and told me to follow it exactly. A few weeks later
my piercing was healed and there was an article in the Daily Press,
"Jeff Lieber, Owner of Colorful Image pushing for health regulations
in Delta and Menominee counties."
From that point on, I decided that I wouldn't be going anywhere else.
Cassandra moved back to Manistique and Chris and I moved into a new
apartment right across the street from Colorful Image, how convenient.
So, why not go and get our Tragus pierced, we had both been talking
about it and we were both legal. Even though there were no regulations,
Jeff ran a strict and sterilized studio, it wasn't just about putting
$40.00 in his pocket.
We filled out a waiver and medical questionnaire and he photocopied
our I.D.s
and we got great piercings done.
That's when Jeff and I started to become great friends. I started helping
him at the shop,
and before we new it, I was doing all of the books, helping customers
and setting up for piercings. It was then that I realized this is what
I want to do. College is not for me.
It was great because my parents have supported me the whole way.
March of 2002 Jeff asked me to move in with him and his son Chase. He
also has two other children Mikkayla and Chance, and they are all great.
Let the tattoos begin.
It started with a nice size one on my upper thigh and then went to a
whole leg piece. I was in my glory. Jeff and I spend a lot of time together
in the shop, and one afternoon he was looking at the tattoos that I
got done down the street, and we decided I got more shit than anything
so he began covering up some and re-working the others.
February 2003, I bought Colorful Image from Jeff, May of 2003, we moved
to Appleton to open up the Flesh Chamber with Dave Campbell and Anthony
Ybarra.
October 2003, I closed Colorful Image due to a piece of shit individual
that thought drugs were more important than a Job. May 1st 2004 Jeff
and I got married in Hermansville Michigan.
June, Jeff and I opened Flesh Chamber West and business is great!
I am now the mom of four beautiful children. On July 29th 2004,
I gave birth to a handsome 9lb 7oz baby boy, Jeffery Joel Lieber.
Now that I am not pregnant, I have gotten some more extensive work;
it seemed like forever before I could get another one done.
My piercing apprenticeship is coming along great. I have started my
hands on.
I have done 4 piercings and they all look great. They will be posted
on the Website soon.
I have also started my Tattoo apprenticeship.
So far all is well. I am also fully certified in CPR, First aide, Needle
stick safety, and Blood borne Pathogens. So if you have any questions
feel free to ask.
Thanks for Looking
at our Web Site and hopefully we see you in the Studio Soon!!!!!!!
